inspiredlife: (good luck exploring...)
I'm so far behind on reading and commenting on, well, everything. But, the lovely [livejournal.com profile] i_claudia  has written a little bit of comment fic for me and I must bring it to your attention.

I'm assuming most of you Merlin folk have read Check and Mate. If you haven't, go read it now. Written in the style of Patrick O'Brian, Claudia has developed a lush world where Merlin is a Navy man and Arthur, Lord Pendragon, is enamoured of him. I think most of you know that I love period pieces and this one delivers in all the best ways. It's smoking hot, full of gorgeous angst and there is such beautiful yearning. I loved every single moment of this read and am embarrassed I haven't commented on it yet.

Even more amazing, Claudia wrote me a continuation of it here. This is just a wee comment fic but it packs a punch and has put a huge grin on my face. Then lucky [livejournal.com profile] lolafeist got a comment fic, filled with delicious angst as well.

Seriously, I can't express how lovely this 'verse is. If you haven't read it, do check it out.  Thanks, Claudia, this has been a real treat and I can only hope there's more in this 'verse one day. <3

To answer the question from my last post, no, this day isn't ever going to end. I left work around 5:30, talked to the girl for a bit, ate a slice of bbq chicken pizza and was back to work by 7:30. Think I have a long night ahead of me. Either that or I work more than planned this weekend. Neither seems appealing. :(

However, I did just have a rather amusing conversation with a mate (though, please note, good sir, that it wasn't the conversation i intended to have with you). And, i have good music playing. Also, the rumour that my bloody mary mix actually has vodka in it might be true (unlike most mornings when i can be seen chugging it).

But, sadly, working late means that I haven't been able to watch all the fantastic (one assumes) music vids y'all linked to in my earlier post. Nor can I reciprocate. I'll get to it this weekend, lovelies!

In the meantime, I'm bored! And apparently super spammy and needy today. But, entertain me?  Tell me a joke, a secret, two truths and lie? Play shag, marry, cliff? Send me a text? Gimme something to keep going through this mountain of paperwork and i'll give back as good as i get. <3

eta:  also, things i need, part 589583627: an icon of my boy Cols and "IL's pretend boyfriend"

eta2: things i need, part 398472873 (yes, i know it's out of order): help with a mood theme. six years in, i figure it's time to get one.

eta3: 11:04pm and i'm finally leaving my office. Walking the mile home and crashing. catch y'all on the flip side where, if you're willing, i'll definitely need more fun and games to keep me going! <3

Is this day ever going to end?!?

eta: oh, hey, go play in my music exchange thinger. i can't join in till i get home but i'll shoot you a song i think is perfect for you then!

Today I been spit on, pooped on and vomited on. I've also had applesauce and yogurt spilled on me and snot and sand wiped on me. I smelled disgusting and didn't look much better. Thankfully I was able to dash home for a shower. And now, once more back into the fray. Sadly I have work type stuffs until 8:30 tonight. *sigh*

What are you lovely lot up to? I have another meme up; y'all should go play!

I keep on wanting to post but either don't have the words or find myself sounding like a (boring) broken record. I think I just need connection, you know?

So, let's do something silly! Gacked from the lovely [info]kaalee:
please post anonymously and give three hints about yourself. I will try to guess who you are.
One caveat, I suck at games like this so might need more than three hints. Or really easy clues.  :)

♥ Still on a mini-hiatus of sorts. But some good things are in the works so hopefully i'll be back with a post of happiness soonish. [Poll #1650446]

So much going on today!!

Happy Halloween, Blessed Samhain and Blessed All Saint's Day! Also, happy, happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] dreamdustmama and [livejournal.com profile] misswinterhill!! Here's wishing you a fantastic day and a year filled with peace, joy and wonder.

I'm off to fix my shower (i hope!) and then to town to man the school's arts and craft table at the All Saints Eve Party. And, then it's Pats/Vikings at the town pub. Wooo-hoooo!

I hope that all of you have wonderful days filled with many happy making things. *smooooshes the flist tightly*
inspiredlife: (*headdesks*)
Today has been a not good day. How much like a broken record do I sound? Remember way back in 2005 when I was the eternally peppy one with too many exclamation points? Yeah, I miss those days.  There was a lot about that time that was pretty fucking awesome, tbh.

Anyway, I planned to write a largely over dramatic post of whine which would have made Mish laugh and the rest of you roll your eyes but I can't do it. I'm annoyed with my whinging so I can't imagine how y'all feel.

So, instead I propose a swap. I'm going to go and watch an episode or two of TW. Comment with something good...something in your life, a rec, a poem you love, Colin Morgan and when I get back I'll share something good with you.  (disclaimer: if i actually get sleepy (omg, please), I might not get back until tomorrow.) Also, if you don't see this til tomorrow, comment anyway. 'twill be good fun.

Happy, happy Saturday, lovelies.  Today is bright and sunshiny and right now, I'm happy. It feels like I haven't been in a long time, you know?  *clings to happy mood as tight as I can*

Anyway today is Merlin Day! YAYAYAY!

Also, I got my taxes done, just in the nick of time (and I even have a return coming to me despite the utter fail of my boss). I'm never filing an extension again though.

I also have cinnamon rolls in the oven! Annnnd, I'm cleaning out my fridge as part of my huge kitchen cleaning fridge. Cleaning is loads easier when you can actually see the dirt. Who knew?! Also, who the fuck puts unopened cans of veg, fruit and meat in the fridge? (let it go, IL, just let it go *deep breath*).

Anyway, what's your favourite pump-it-up music? I find cleaning needs kick-ass music. I've been listening to a lot of Mike Snow, Cobra Starship and Tricky today.

Daily dose(s) and other nattering coming up in next post but first, a rec! We have been given an embarrassment of riches in terms of fic and art this month. With [livejournal.com profile] paperlegends[livejournal.com profile] whizzbangpop and [livejournal.com profile] merlinbb_rpf all posting it's a bit overwhelming. I'm slowly making my way through and I've been really enjoying all I've read. but sometimes, there's a story that just makes me stop, forces me slow down my reading and savor every word. Chibi's bb is exactly that story.

[livejournal.com profile] chibirhm's Drawn to Any Good (Or, The Education of Lord Arthur Pendragon)
Pairing, Rating, Length: Arthur/Merlin, Gwen/Lancelot, R, a little under 60k+
Summary: In which Lord Arthur Pendragon loses everything and gains a magician.

I don't even know what to say about this story. It transcends fic, imo. Set in early-Victorian England, this fic read like it could be one of my favourite novels, with the added bonus of featuring characters I already know and love.  Speaking of characters, I felt it was wonderfully in character. I loved Merlin who was portrayed as a powerful wizard, one who was competent, gentle, cautious and wonderfully patient. Arthur as a besotted aristocrat who risks everything wormed his way into my heart almost immediately.

In addition, Chibi's concept was wonderful. I don't want to give any too many details but I really liked her time period, the premise she set forward and the way it was carried out.  She's also created a well rounded cast of characters (particular love for Gawain and Morgana!) that work incredibly well together.

As if this wasn't enough, a large part of this story is epistolary, which is one of my favourite things in fic. Being able to read correspondence between characters heightens one's understanding of those characters and provides a lovely glimpse into a developing relationship. There's something so intimate and revealing about letters, etc.  Plus, I think this style really highlights an author's skill. And Chibi's language is perfect...whether it's alternating letters between Merlin and Arthur, delightful banter, formal addresses, the girl's got it down.

I could go on and on but I think it best to shoo you along to the fic. It's truly a fantastic story and will stay with me for a long time, if only because I smile every time I think of it.

I do not have the time, energy or desire to deal with LJ's latest fuck-up. Simply put, my privacy is extremely important to me. My LJ is largely flocked for a number of reasons, one of the primary ones being my career. While my LJ does reflect a lot of my rl, I do not want it connected with my fb and twitter. Suffice to say, i will never crosspost material from anyone else's journal, including my comments. I respectfully request that you extend me the same courtesy. That being said, I do have a DW account (I'm inspiredlife there too) but don't have any plans to move there. I've been on LJ a long time and am, for the most part, happy here.

If you'd like to prevent accidental cross posting, here's a link to the Greasemonkey script that gets rid of the FB/twitter buttons in the comment box.

In other news, September is traditionally a difficult month for me. There's a lot of sadness for me and it's been made worse these past few years as it's become the time that my idyll with Mish ends. In keeping with my post from Monday, I'd like to try to find positive things each day. They'll probably be small, silly things but look for a da: ily dose of happy from me. And, if you don't see one...call me on it. (though not until the night - given my current work situation they will be later in the day).

Today's daily dose of happy:
So, posting began the other day on one of the Merlin bb's, [livejournal.com profile] paperlegends. I haven't actually had time to read any of the stories yet but I had the absolute joy of beta-ing [livejournal.com profile] nieded's wonderful story, A Personal History of Midwestern Running.  A modern high school au, the story tracks the journey Arthur and Merlin take when Arthur starts coaching Merlin in running. It's a completely believable take on the drama and angst every teenager faces and she's written absolutely wonderful characters. I don't even know what else to say about this story because I just love it to bits. It's very much been a happy thing these last few weeks.

Alright. Off to rustle up some supper.

eta: I'm so behind on comments, it's absurd. thanks for all wonderful comments over the past few weeks. they've been greatly appreciated even if i'm lame and didn't acknowledge them. <3

Woooo-hoo! Things that are great about today...
♥ The Jamie Cullum show in Clearwater was amaaaaaazing. Our seats were fourteen rows back from the stage and we had a fantastic view. Jamie is just a consummate performer; he really gives it his all and you just know he's loving every second of it. Oh, man, what a fabulous night.

★ It's Friday!! Busy weekend ahead it seems but also beach time so it's all good.

♥ My brother just texted me to confirm his visit next week. Yay!

★ French toast bagel for brekkie (sometimes it's the small things, yeah?)

Anyway, it is indeed Friday and, for once, I'm able to post which means...five for friday! Thanks to my week of music and traveling I thought we'd do a slightly on-topic theme. A couple of these have been recycled from a December set but I'd love to hear more stories and, hey, your answer might have changed in six months. :)

1. What is one of your favourite concert memories?

2. What is your go-to pick me up song when you're feeling low? Why?

3. Road trips are...?

4. What was one trip (road trip or otherwise) that you have particularly fond memories of?

5. If you're only as old as you feel, how old are you?

I owe comments, emails, etc. Shall get to all this weekend. Have a great one, lovelies! *hugs the flist*

I'm supposed to be tidying (read: dusting) my bedroom. Or scrubbing the bathtub. Perhaps folding and putting away the laundry. Instead I'm sitting here looking for some fluffy and/or funny fic. I have a bunch of stories bookmarked right now but most of it is smexy stuff and, tbh, I really, really need some fluff. Recs? I'd prefer Merlin (Merlin/Arthur or Colin/Bradley) but in a pinch will take Glee or HP recs (H/D) also.

Or you can tell me funny/silly/sweet things. I'm tired, y'all. *hugs the flist*

It's Friday! *dances*  I have a busy weekend full of exciting things like PT, cleaning and organizing ahead of me. But  there are also plans for a lazy lie-in and perhaps a pedicure. And it's Friday so whatever!  Also, for once, I'm actually looking forward to Monday! *glee*

Anyway, it's been a while since I've done a five for Friday. Let's go with a completely random collection today.

1. Talk to me about cucumbers and proper preparation. When you cut a cuke do you cut off the ends and rub them against the body to get rid of the bitter taste?

2. How about chores...vacuuming or dusting? Laundry or washing dishes?

3. Pedicures are....

4. What's one of your favourite images of the moment? Please link me or include in comments if possible!

5. Do you have allergies? It so what?

I couldn't tell  you why but this is one of my favourite gifs of late: It just seriously makes me happy.

Just a wee bit stressed out today. I have some insane work stuffs going on. I haven't been paid since May 18th. If all goes as planned, I'll get two paychecks on Tuesday but fuck, money is tight. I over-drafted my account by 62 cents today. Awesome. Also, my allergies are acting up like crazy. I don't even know what it is I'm reacting to but it's awful. Lastly, I'm so behind on my flist. I have fics and posts to comment on bookmarked hopefully I can catch up this weekend.

On the plus side of things...
♥ My beloved Celts won last night, tying up the series 2-2

♥ Wooo-hoo World Cup! I know what I'm doing this weekend

♥ Mish is, I think, so close to buying her ticket. It won't feel real to me until then but hopefully today!

The Sound of Merlin. This is exactly what you might have guessed, a Merlin fic based on The Sound of Music. You might not this but I'm a sucker for the Sound of Music. I've done the show four times and have been known to listen to the soundtrack when I'm low. So you can bet I clicked that link as fast as I could. Featuring Merlin as Maria, Arthur as the Captain and the Knights as the children (so much love for wee!Leon). I'll admit it this fic is made up of silliness and I do wish it was fleshed out a bit more. But it's also utterly fantastic and so very sweet. If you're looking for some easy entertainment definitely check it out.

I definitely had more to say but my brain is all fuzzy and tired. So...happy Friday lovelies!  :)

eta: oh, i remembered one of the things. I don't read on filters. I may suck at commenting but I always read. However, I do post on filters, mainly because I try to spare some of you my full inanity (though some of you will never escape. muhahaha!). Anyway, if you're just here for the fandom stuff and want nothing to do with the RL ramblings please let me know. No hard feelings, I promise. Likewise if you're one of my HP friends who has become a beloved RL friend and are getting tired about my increasing ridiculousness regarding Colin Morgan, his cheekbones of d00m and Merlin fic, tell me! I can create a Merlin fandom filter if you'd like.  *loves on the flist*
