I tweeted about this yesterday but wanted to link to it here as well. Found via @postsecret, Alan Rickman's good-bye letter as Snape to all Harry Potter fans. As many of you know, Snape was one of my favourite characters and I think Alan Rickman is such a class act. Yeah, I might have cried a bit reading this the first time.

And, now I'm on such an HP kick! I think I'll indulge in some fic tonight. Maybe a couple of the classics. Anyone still in HP have recs?  What were your favourites?

In other news, dentist today. Ugh. Not even sure what we're doing. I just have a standing appointment for the next few weeks to get as much done before my free dental runs out. Whatever complaints I have about the job and my boss that was an amazing benefit.

Alright, I'm off to work. Full-out day - I reckon busy is good. Hope y'all have wonderful days! Catch you on the flip side. <3

So, [livejournal.com profile] accioslash asks us to tell her about our first time. That is, the first time you read fanfic, HP or otherwise. For me, Harry Potter and fanfic will always be irrevocably tied together.

ramblings about HP and fanfic )

Speaking of fan fic, [livejournal.com profile] tipgardner recently re-posted A Case of Conventions, which is a Hermione/Viktor fic with side orders of Blaise/Pancy and Harry/Draco. It's a scorching hot and rather clever piece. I really love the way he paces the story and sets up the pairings. It's extremely well written and did I mention smoking hot? I suggest everyone go read it.

And, that's more than enough schmoop from me. Happy Monday, lovelies!

i have my passport in hand!!!  wooo-hooo!  and, i promise that this is the last you lot will hear of it.

in other news, i'm out. there's trolls and stupidity and it's so fucking annoying. i'd only been in fandom a short time when HBP came out and that was a fantastic experience. seriously, no book release should be fraught with anxiety, sorrow and anger...unless it's concern for characters. i already have enough stress and concern going on for my slytherin lads.  draco and sev get all my attention. trolls get none.

i'll likely be done with the book on saturday and be back around. but my lj will remain spoiler free even then.  kishi, i'll even remain spoiler free in your presence. ;)

and, if i don't like DH, I'm just going to make [profile] willysunny's dream verse my personal canon.  willow's series was the first HP fic I read and I re-read last night.  i still love this fic to pieces.  it's so well crafted, full of vivid imagery, true humanity and the struggle to move forward when facing adversity and loss.  so, if you're looking for something to occupy your time until DH, may i suggest the dream verse series?

or perhaps you're looking for something shorter?  how about tip's love is stronger than justice?  whether HP or original, tip's writing always touches me. i've recced this story before but i return to it often since it resonates so with me. in an amazing five hundred words, tip weaves evocative imagery and gorgeous language into a character death that is heart-breaking but oh-so-right.

so, yeah, i've found personal canon i'd be happy with.  and, i'm sure that i'll continue to do so after the dust settles and fandom remakes itself.  but for now, i wish you all well.  have fun and all that stuff.  catch you lovelies on the flip side!

[livejournal.com profile] nefernat, I got your card last night! So much with teh pretty! You put my card to shame. ;D

[livejournal.com profile] anasuede, I got your package too! You are a complete rock star. Thank you so much for pulling me over to the dark side getting me started on your much-loved obsession. I'm seriously overwhelmed by the generosity you've shown by copying all those discs.

So, I'm still sick but my digestive system has finally decided to cooperate with my body again. This is a good thing as I've lost almost twelve pounds in the past three weeks. Also, I've been majorly cranky. I can handle an ongoing cough and sore throat, yeah?

And now for a bit of squeeing, my mate James is made up of awesome. Since he works at one of those big electronics stores, I'd asked him to hook me up with a Tivo player for my brother's Christmas/birthday gift. He hooked me up with a %400 model for $75. If that wasn't cool enough, he gave me a Tivo for Christmas! How much does that rock? Majorly, I'd say.

Last but not least, a rec! [livejournal.com profile] hd_365 is a comm which started last January with the goal of posting an H/D fic every day. They've had a group of wonderful writers contributing to their "a shag a day" theme and there's been some fun stories. The one I read last night was simply gorgeous. For me, it encapsulated the true spirit of Christmas...being with your loved ones and cherishing the blessings in your life. And, finding ways to treasure them after the holiday season has passed and we're in the depths of winter for it is truly these things that make this life worthwhile. So, please, go read [livejournal.com profile] rurounihime's To Help Another, One Must Help Oneself

I'm housebound for the next couple of days. Doctor's orders. So far I've cleaned my kitchen and lazed about on the couch reading. I finally decided to hit the internets and now you get my inane ramblings.

The cons of being housebound:
Work repeatedly calling to ask idiotic questions, restlessness, daytime tv sucks, boredom already settling in.

The pros:
Sleep, reading, OL shopping (hurray for getting a fair bit of the holiday shopping done), Merry Smutmas

I've finally been able to start reading some of the Smutmas fics. Good lord there's some good stuff out there! These are a couple of my faves so far:

Choiceless - Snape/Draco
I don't read a lot of Snape/Draco but this completely drew me in. Fabulous character development, intense emotions, and quite visceral.

Reprieve - Harry/Draco
There's plot, there's mystery, there's hot sex - what more could you want?

Worldy Hands - Sirius/Harry
This is scorchingly hot and there's past james/sirius angst - makes for a good combination. Simply gorgeous.

Now, can anyone rec me some good Ron/Slytherins, preferably Ron/Draco? I've got a hankering for some thanks to a rabid drabbler. ;)

Also, I really want some hot chocolate and there's none in the house. Now would be an excellent time for a certain someone to finish work on the instant teleportation device. Just sayin', lovey.

Here, have some music:
Trans-Siberian Orchestra - Christmas Canon

The Brian Setzer Orchestra ~ Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!
